The Bike Hospital

While in South Africa working on a different project, I became aware of what's claimed to be the largest motorcycle breakers yard in the Southern Hemisphere. That's quite a claim so I had to pop down to the Bike Hospital to find out.

Located near the M1/M2 junction below Hillbrow in Johannesburg, the Bike Hospital is certainly the largest in Africa and is an absolute goldmine for bike lovers.

Every possible nook and cranny of the site is stuffed with lumps, parts, bits and chunks of bikes dating back over decades, which they're currently trying their best to organise into more of a system. However, the team know the current "fluid" arrangement so well that parts are located quickly and efficiently when requested.

Being the son of a biker, I was just hearing my Dad's voice in my head, letting out whimpers of delight as he discovered the forks from some long-since sold model of bike he had in his youth.

My thanks go to Shaun Krugel and his team for allowing me the chance to explore his playground.
